Jensen Huang told Joe Rogan that AI will become personal, that your AI will fight for you. He's right about the destination but the path there is stranger than anyone's admitting.
A few months ago, Jensen Huang sat across from Joe Rogan and laid out a vision of the future that sounded like a plot pitch for a near-future sci-fi movie. The gist: everyone will have their own AI. Your AI will know you, protect you, work for you, fight for you. His AI will do the same for him. And when your interests collide with someone else’s, it won’t be you versus them anymore. It’ll be your AI versus their AI.
“My AI is going to take care of me,” Huang said. “That’s the cybersecurity argument.”
He went further. He described a world of competing intelligent systems, where if one AI does something surprising, the other one watches and goes “that’s not that surprising.” A natural equilibrium maintained by distributed intelligence rather than centralized control. He compared it to how the cybersecurity community works today: “Not only am I watching my own back, I’ve got everybody watching my back and I’m watching everybody else’s back.”
Coming from the CEO of a company worth north of $3 trillion, a company that sells the literal infrastructure for building AI, this isn’t idle speculation. This is a market thesis dressed up as a fireside chat. And the thing is, he’s not wrong about the destination. The path to get there is just a lot more tangled than a two-hour podcast can cover.
I’ve spent the last year building with AI agents daily. Not casually. Building multi-agent systems, designing orchestration protocols, writing code with agentic tools, deploying teams of Claude instances that coordinate autonomously for hours. The “your AI vs my AI” future isn’t hypothetical to me. I can see the shape of it from where I’m standing. And from here, the view is both more exciting and more uncomfortable than Jensen made it sound.
The sales pitch vs. the spec sheet
Huang’s vision at the Joe Rogan table was the consumer version. The one that makes you nod along. But Huang the engineer told a more precise story at CES 2025, where he declared “the age of AI Agentics is here” and called AI agents “a multi-trillion-dollar opportunity.” He announced Project DIGITS, a $3,000 personal AI supercomputer running a Grace Blackwell chip, capable of running models with up to 200 billion parameters on your desk. “Every software engineer, every creative artist, everybody who uses computers today as a tool will need an AI supercomputer,” he said.
Then at GTC 2025, he went even further: “The IT department of every company is going to be the HR department of AI agents in the future.” By October 2025, he was predicting that future workforces would be “a combination of humans and digital humans.”
Each time, the pitch gets more concrete. First it’s a vibe. Then it’s a product. Then it’s an organizational chart. That progression tells you something. This isn’t a CEO making grand pronouncements into the void. This is a CEO whose company’s revenue depends on the world actually building the infrastructure for personal AI. NVIDIA needs “your AI vs my AI” to happen. They sell the GPUs.
Which raises the first uncomfortable question: when the person selling the picks and shovels tells you there’s gold in them hills, how much of that is prediction and how much is marketing?
Both, obviously. But the answer matters less than the follow-up: even if the destination is real, what does the road actually look like?
What “personal AI” means in February 2026

Then there’s the hardware graveyard. The Rabbit R1 ($199) launched to reviews that boiled down to “what does this do that my phone doesn’t?” The Humane AI Pin ($699) tried to be an AI wearable and mostly succeeded at being a conversation piece that overheats. The Limitless Pendant ($99) wisely chose to be just a memory capture device instead of trying to replace your phone. At least one of those companies learned from the others’ mistakes.
Here’s what this table tells you: the big players are all building agents. None of them are done. The stuff that works is either limited-preview, developer-only, or tethered to a $20-200/month subscription. The stuff that shipped to consumers (hardware devices) mostly flopped. The actual state of personal AI in early 2026 is powerful but fragmented, expensive, and still early.
That’s important context for evaluating Jensen’s vision. When he says “your AI vs my AI,” he’s not describing what exists. He’s describing what he believes the infrastructure he sells will eventually enable.
The three layers you actually need
For “your AI vs my AI” to work the way Jensen describes it, three layers need to exist. Right now, we have parts of each. None of them are complete.
Layer 1: The agent itself
This is the part that’s furthest along. Foundation models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others can reason, write code, analyze documents, browse the web, and control computers. Claude Opus 4.6 (the model powering Anthropic’s Cowork and the one I use daily) can sustain multi-hour autonomous work sessions when properly orchestrated. GPT-4o powers OpenAI’s Operator. Gemini 2 powers Google’s Mariner.
The raw intelligence is there. The models are good enough for real work. This isn’t the bottleneck.
Layer 2: The connection fabric
This is where MCP and A2A come in, and this is the layer most people underestimate.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) was released by Anthropic in November 2024. Think of it as USB-C for AI: a standardized way for an AI agent to connect to external tools, data sources, and services. It went from 100,000 downloads at launch to 97 million monthly SDK downloads by late 2025. It’s been adopted by ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, VS Code, and thousands of third-party integrations. This is the plumbing for “your AI vs my AI.” Without standardized protocols, your AI can’t talk to their AI. Without tool integration, your AI can’t actually do anything on your behalf. The protocols exist now. They’re being standardized. But the ecosystem is young, and adoption at the consumer level is minimal.
Layer 3: Personal context and memory
This is the layer nobody has solved yet, and it’s the one that determines whether “your AI” is actually yours or just a generic model with your name on it.
For an AI to be personal, it needs to know you. Not in the way ChatGPT “remembers” that you prefer Python over JavaScript. None of these, alone or combined, produce what Jensen is describing. “My AI is going to take care of me” implies an agent that understands your interests deeply enough to advocate for them autonomously. That requires a persistent, evolving model of who you are, what you want, and what trade-offs you’d accept. We don’t have that. We have fragments.
The uncomfortable math of “your AI vs my AI”
Here’s where Jensen’s vision gets tricky. The phrase “your AI vs my AI” sounds democratic. Egalitarian, even. Everyone gets one! But the economics tell a different story.

The entry-level version of personal AI is $20/month. That’s accessible. But “your AI vs my AI” in Jensen’s vision isn’t about a chatbot answering questions. It’s about an autonomous agent that works for you continuously, negotiates on your behalf, monitors your interests, and takes action. That requires sustained compute, which means sustained cost.
If you’re a knowledge worker making $150k/year and you spend $200/month on AI tools that make you 20% more productive, that’s an obvious investment. If you’re making $40k/year, that $200/month is rent money. And the person spending $200/month on AI gets better AI than the person spending $20/month, which means their agent is smarter, faster, more capable.
The Axios piece from January 2026 called this the emergence of “Have-Nots, Haves, and Have-Lots.” During Q2 2025, the top 10% of US households saw their wealth increase by $5 trillion in a single quarter. The bottom 50% saw $150 billion. That’s a 33:1 ratio. Among the 50 richest Americans, the median 2025 net worth increase was nearly $10 billion, a 22% gain in a year where the S&P returned 16%.

Jensen’s “your AI vs my AI” is actually “your $20/month AI vs my $2,000/month AI.” And the gap in capability between those two isn’t linear. It’s exponential. The $2,000/month AI doesn’t just answer questions faster. It runs 24/7, monitors your investments, negotiates your contracts, files your taxes, manages your calendar, reads every email, and takes action on your behalf while you sleep.
The Sam Altman vs. Anthropic Super Bowl ad spat in February 2026 crystallized this tension perfectly. Anthropic ran satirical ads jabbing at OpenAI’s plans to put ads in ChatGPT, with the tagline “Ads are coming to AI.” Altman fired back that “Anthropic serves an expensive product to rich people, while OpenAI feels strongly about bringing AI to billions of people who can’t pay for subscriptions.”
Both are telling the truth. And both truths are uncomfortable. Altman’s path to democratic AI access leads to ad-supported models with misaligned incentives (the AI works for advertisers, not for you). Anthropic’s ad-free path keeps the AI aligned with users but prices out most of the world. Neither path gives everyone an equally capable personal AI.
The agent gap is the new digital divide
In the early 2000s, the digital divide was about internet access. Having broadband versus dial-up versus nothing. That divide had real economic consequences, but it was fundamentally about information access. You could read the same Wikipedia article on a dial-up connection; it just loaded slower.
The AI agent divide is structurally different. It’s not about access to information. It’s about access to action. A better AI agent doesn’t just know more. It does more. It negotiates better, responds faster, catches opportunities you’d miss, avoids mistakes you’d make.
Here’s a concrete example. Two people apply for the same job:

Their agent monitors job boards continuously, tailors their resume to each posting using analysis of the company’s recent press releases and engineering blog posts, drafts a cover letter in their voice, schedules the application for optimal timing, preps them for the interview with a simulated conversation based on Glassdoor reviews, and follows up automatically.

What Jensen gets right (and what he glosses over)
I want to be fair to Huang here. His core insight is correct: AI agents will become personal, they’ll represent their owners’ interests, and the interaction between competing agents will shape how business, governance, and daily life work. That’s clearly the direction everything is moving.
He also gets the cybersecurity metaphor right. When he says “Not only am I watching my own back, I’ve got everybody watching my back and I’m watching everybody else’s back,” he’s describing a real property of distributed intelligent systems. No single agent can be overwhelmingly dominant because other agents can observe, learn from, and counter its strategies. If your AI tries something clever, my AI has the same foundation models available and will figure out the counter.
But here’s what he glosses over.
The bootstrap problem. Getting “your AI” to actually know you requires giving it access to your most sensitive data: finances, health records, communications, browsing history, location data. The trust infrastructure for this doesn’t exist yet. We can barely get people to use password managers. Now we’re asking them to hand their entire life context to an AI system hosted on someone else’s servers? MCP lets agents connect to your tools. It doesn’t solve the question of whether you should let them.
The standardization gap. MCP and A2A exist, but they’re young protocols. “Your AI vs my AI” requires your agent to interact with their agent reliably, across different model providers, tool integrations, and organizational boundaries. Today’s AI agents can barely fill out web forms consistently. The gap between “protocol exists” and “protocol is universally deployed and reliable” is measured in years, not months.
The alignment question. Jensen frames competing AIs as a natural check-and-balance system. But that assumes all AIs are aligned with their owners’ interests. What if your AI is optimizing for your employer’s goals because your employer pays for the enterprise tier? What if the “free” version of personal AI is subsidized by advertisers who influence the agent’s recommendations? The alignment problem isn’t just about preventing superintelligent AI from destroying humanity. It’s about making sure your AI is actually working for you, not for whoever’s paying the cloud bill.
The regulation void. When your AI agent negotiates a contract on your behalf, who’s liable if the terms are unfavorable? When your AI makes a medical decision based on incomplete data, who bears responsibility? When your AI and my AI disagree on the terms of a transaction, what’s the dispute resolution mechanism? We have centuries of law built around human-to-human interaction. We have approximately zero settled law for agent-to-agent interaction.
What it actually looks like to build with agents today
Let me pull this out of the abstract and into my actual experience, because I think the gap between the vision and the reality is instructive.
I recently built a 14-agent system to audit a physics engine I’d been developing. Seven active teammates, running for 3 hours autonomously, coordinated through an orchestration protocol I designed from scratch. The agents ran on Claude Code’s Agent Teams feature, using both Opus 4.6 and Sonnet models depending on task complexity.
It worked. It produced the most thorough audit I’ve received from any agentic setup. But “it worked” hides a mountain of engineering that Jensen’s “your AI vs my AI” pitch conveniently omits.

Without that protocol, the same agents produced shallow, disjointed output. With it, they produced deep, coordinated work. The protocol is the product. Everything else is just compute.
Now project that forward. For “your AI vs my AI” to work, someone needs to design these protocols at scale. Not for a 14-agent physics audit, but for agent-to-agent commerce, agent-to-agent negotiation, agent-to-agent dispute resolution. That’s not a product feature. That’s a civilizational infrastructure project.
Three futures (pick your timeline)
I keep thinking about this in terms of three horizons. Not because the future is predictable, but because the constraints at each horizon are different.
2026-2027: The tool era
This is where we are. AI agents are powerful tools that technically sophisticated people use to get more done. It can take multi-step actions autonomously within boundaries you’ve set. Agent-to-agent transactions (scheduling, purchasing, negotiating) are becoming common for early adopters.
The equity question gets louder. Enterprise employees have access to powerful AI agents through their employers. Freelancers and small business owners pay out of pocket. Low-income workers get ad-supported versions with compromised alignment. Policy discussions about “AI access as infrastructure” (like broadband or electricity) start happening in earnest.
2030+: The advocate era
This is Jensen’s vision, fully realized. Your AI is a persistent, always-on advocate that understands your interests deeply and acts on them autonomously. It negotiates your salary, optimizes your taxes, manages your health, handles your legal affairs, maintains your relationships, and protects your digital security. “Your AI vs my AI” is the default mode of interaction for everything from commerce to governance.
The technical requirements for this are staggering. Persistent world models, long-term memory that spans years, real-time integration with hundreds of services, reliable agent-to-agent protocols, robust identity and authentication systems, legal frameworks for agent liability, and compute infrastructure that’s affordable enough for universal access.
Will we get there? Probably. Eventually. The question isn’t if but how, and for whom.
The NVIDIA-shaped hole in the story
There’s one more thing Jensen doesn’t say, but it’s the subtext of everything he does say.
NVIDIA’s business model depends on AI compute demand growing indefinitely. Every personal AI agent running 24/7, every “your AI vs my AI” interaction, every agent-to-agent negotiation requires GPUs. If Jensen’s vision comes true, every person on Earth becomes a continuous consumer of GPU compute, not just when they open an app, but always. It’s the most bullish possible scenario for NVIDIA’s revenue.
That doesn’t make the vision wrong. Cisco believed in the internet when they were selling routers, and they were right. But it means you should read Jensen’s predictions with the same critical eye you’d apply to any CEO whose company’s valuation depends on the prediction being correct.
When he says “your AI vs my AI” on Joe Rogan, he’s not just describing the future. He’s selling it. And the thing he’s selling is not the AI. It’s the infrastructure that makes the AI possible. The GPUs. The superchips. The data center contracts. The $3,000 personal AI supercomputer sitting on your desk.
What I actually think
After a year of building with agents, reading the research, watching the products ship and fail, here’s where I land.
Jensen is directionally right about the destination. AI agents will become personal. They will represent their owners. Their interactions with each other will matter. The future really is “your AI vs my AI” in some meaningful sense.
But the path there reveals three things that the podcast version of this story can’t accommodate:
First, personal AI requires personal infrastructure, and infrastructure has costs. Those costs create tiers. Those tiers create inequality. “Your AI vs my AI” is not a fair fight when one side is running Opus on dedicated hardware and the other side is using a rate-limited free tier with ads. The cybersecurity equilibrium that Jensen describes only works when the agents are roughly comparable. A world where the wealthy have qualitatively better AI agents than everyone else isn’t equilibrium. It’s amplification of existing power structures.
Second, the orchestration problem is unsolved at scale. Building one multi-agent system for a specific task is hard but doable. Building universal protocols for arbitrary agent-to-agent interaction across organizational, jurisdictional, and cultural boundaries is an order of magnitude harder. MCP and A2A are the right starting points. They’re also just starting points.
Third, the alignment question is actually the economic question in disguise. “Is your AI working for you?” depends on who’s paying for it. Ad-supported AI works for advertisers. Employer-provided AI works for your employer. Subscription AI works for you, but only if you can afford the subscription. The answer to “who does your AI serve?” is almost always “whoever pays the compute bill.”
That last point is the one that keeps me up at night. Not because the technology isn’t incredible. It is. I use it every day and it makes me dramatically more capable. But because the shape of “your AI vs my AI” is going to be determined less by technical capability and more by economic structure. By who controls the compute, who owns the protocols, who sets the prices, and who gets priced out.
Jensen sees a world of competing AIs creating natural equilibrium. I see that world too. But I also see that equilibrium isn’t the same as equity. A healthy ecosystem where predator and prey populations balance each other is an equilibrium. It’s not a great deal for the prey.
The question isn’t whether “your AI vs my AI” will happen. It’s whether “your AI vs my AI” will be a fair fight. And right now, the answer to that question depends a lot on what you can afford.
